If you're new to telehealth, your first appointment can feel a bit daunting. However, understanding the process can help ease any anxiety. Here’s a guide on what to expect during your initial telehealth visit.
Getting Started
Once you’ve booked your appointment—by phone or through our online booking system—you’re already on your way. From there, we’ll guide you through a few simple steps to get ready for your telehealth visit.
Completing Your Forms
After your appointment is scheduled, we’ll ask you to submit a few items so everything runs smoothly. Please send the following either by email to contact@serenewellnesspsychiatry.com or by text to 410-698-1894:
A photo of the front and back of your insurance card
A photo of the front of your ID (driver’s license or other legal ID)
The signed contract sent through text and email
Make sure to complete these forms before your appointment to ensure a smooth process.
Appointment Confirmation
You’ll receive a confirmation message the day before your appointment. This is a good time to double-check your schedule and make sure your device is ready.
On the Day of Your Visit
On the day of your appointment, you’ll receive a text or email with a secure link to join your session. No special software or downloads are required. The platform is easy to use and works directly from your web browser on your computer, tablet or mobile device. We recommend logging in a few minutes early in case you need to adjust your audio or video settings.
During the Appointment
Your first visit typically lasts about an hour. During this time, your provider will talk with you about:
Your personal and family history
Current or past medications
What’s been going on in your life recently
This conversation helps your provider understand your needs and determine the best next steps.
What Happens Next
At the end of your initial appointment, your provider will likely schedule a follow-up appointment. This ensures continuity of care and allows for ongoing support as needed.
Final Thoughts
Telehealth visits are designed to be approachable, private, and flexible. Having a general idea of what to expect can make the experience feel easier and more comfortable. And if anything comes up, whether it’s a scheduling conflict, technical trouble, or just life getting in the way, please reach out to us as soon as possible. We’re always happy to help reschedule!
